Eating, Moonworts & Hot Springs

Eva growing up fast these days. She's finally gotten her first taste of real food (rice cereal), gone on a rare plant survey, and soaked in a natural hot spring!

Eva doesn't really like food yet. Notice all the rice cereal around her mouth, not in it.

But she does like playing with the spoon.

This past week, Jeff helped me do some rare plant surveys near Pagosa Springs, CO. Mom came out to baby sit. Here I am looking for moonworts (Botrychium spp.) along an old skid road in the subalpine of Colorado.

We got rained on every afternoon, but still covered about 500 acres of ground.

Here's what a moonwort looks like. They are very small and grow with strawberries and regenerating spruce. Surveying moonworts brings out the best in us. Sometimes we would break out into songs from the South Pacific show. (Come to me, my special moonwort, come to me, come to me...).

On our way back, we introduced moonworts to Eva. I think she just enjoyed being on daddy's back.

When you have to change a diaper, you better pull over and find a place to do it. What a nice view from this diaper changing area!


Eva also visited her first hot spring at Cottonwood Springs, near Buena Vista. She loved it! And was kicking her legs and trying to swim.
